In the run up to the festive season and in the spirit of joy and raising each other up, Willow & Co Stockbridge has decided to spread some love and start a feature where we share the Stockbridge scene. This includes, pubs, restaurants, walks, shops and everything else in between, including some of our favourite walks.
This week we wanted to start with dog friendly trails as we’ve been searching for our own with our lovely RSPCA rescue Gus and Daisy the Golden Retriever.
Using the world wide web (all trails), we’ve discovered a number of treasures we can’t wait for you to try. So, buckle up, get your hiking boots on and your dog treats ready let’s go on an adventure1
Nestled near Stockbridge, Hampshire, the Farley Mount circular trail offers a delightful 10.3-km journey through some of the region’s most picturesque landscapes. This moderately challenging route typically takes around 2 hours and 35 minutes to complete, making it a perfect escape for nature enthusiasts, families, or anyone seeking fresh air and beautiful views.
What to Expect on the Trail
This trail is a favourite among hikers, runners, and walkers, so you’ll likely share the path with other outdoor lovers. Open year-round, it’s a destination that shines in every season. Dogs are welcome, thank God, with off-lead opportunities in certain areas — just be mindful of nearby animals and vehicles.
Starting at the Farley Mount car park, the route leads you to Farley Mount, the iconic pyramid-shaped folly that inspired the park’s name. As you wander towards Waypoint 1, take a moment to soak in the stunning countryside views that make this trail truly special. For Geocaching fans, there are treasures to be discovered along the way!
Trail Conditions & Navigation
The path is well-trodden and easy to follow, with no stiles or kissing gates to navigate. The first half of the route is relatively flat, while the second half introduces a few gentle inclines — nothing too strenuous. However, sturdy footwear is a must, especially in wet weather.
Seasonal Highlights & Wildlife Spotting
Spring brings vibrant bluebells that carpet parts of the trail, while year-round, you might catch sight of wildlife, including majestic red kites soaring overhead. The natural beauty of the Farley Mount area ensures there’s always something to enjoy, whether it’s the changing leaves of autumn or the crisp air of winter.
Tips for a Safe and Enjoyable Walk
- Footwear: Opt for sturdy shoes, especially during or after rain.
- Dogs: While dogs are welcome, keep them under control around wildlife and vehicles.
- Accessibility: With no stiles or gates, the trail is straightforward to navigate, suitable for most walkers.
